COC

Certificate Of Compliance

The introduction of a PIRB Plumbing Certificate of Compliance (PIRB COC) that must be issued by a Licensed Plumber came in around 2017/2018. The purpose of the COC is to safeguard the customer and service provider. The COC lists the details of the replacement or installation.

According to The Plumbing Industry Registration Board, the COC is a system and process whereby a licensed plumbing practitioner will self-certify their plumbing work by issuing a plumbing certificate of compliance to the relevant owner, municipality, local authority and/or insurance company.

The installation must comply to ALL requirements of the Standard. It is neither the insurance company, nor the plumber’s responsibility to make the installation physically compliant; rather, the onus falls on the owner/user of the system to ensure it is compliant. However, it is imperative that the owner/user is made aware, in writing, of the material facts regarding the non-compliance of the installation, see extract below:

* SANS 10254 Clause: 4.1.1.4 On completion of the installation, a certificate of compliance

from the professional body for plumbers registered in terms of the relevant national legislation (see foreword), shall be issued to the owner of the installation or to the body requiring such a certificate.
